Good News for West Palm Beach Nature Enthusiasts

Five new, nature preserve islands are actually being built in the Intracoastal in West Palm Beach.  Residents of the El Cid neighborhood have the best view of the heavy equipment at work these days.  By spring 2 of the islands will be completed.  Three others will come later.

The new land will be seeded with seagrasses and native mangroves. That will provide the perfect feeding ground and nursery for many local sea creatures – baitfish, oysters, shrimp, snook, and snapper are but a few.  Baby turtles may even use the islands as a stopover on their way to the ocean.

When complete, your binoculars will come in handy to see the shore birds busy fishing for their dinner.  Pelicans, blue and white herons as well as plentiful ibis never disappoint.
